Daily Nothing - Switch 2 specification speculation, some anime from the 80's, an HP printer warning, and more...

After seven years of insanely strong Nintendo Switch sales that have placed the hybrid console into the upper echelons of all-time-biggest-sellers, it's time for The House of Mario to drop a new system on it's rabidly loyal fans. Initial word was that it would come this year, but soon after that time-frame was moved out to 2025. Now, YouTube's Moore's Law is Dead offers a discussion about leaks regarding what might power the new device.

If you dig anime, but don't have a lot of experience with 80's and 90's Original Video Animations (OVA) then you might be interested in checking out Orbital Bacon's channel on YouTube. Yesterday's OVA release is the English dub of FIGHT! Iczer-1, an adult-oriented anime that sees Earth being attacked by The Cthulhu, an alien race bent on domination. Iczer-1, however, has different ideas. To drive home the point, this isn't for kids. PROTIP: Anime comes in all flavors, unlike the West where it's mostly for children.

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, GET AN HP PRINTER SUBSCRIPTION! If you're going to get a new printer, get a laser and not an inkjet, as inkjet printers have been proven to be huge scams over and over again. And now HP wants to improve their income by offering you an "affordable" option for $7 a month which includes TWENTY (20) prints. We bought the otherwise appealing HP M234sdw multi-function laser printer a couple years ago, and we're still using the original cartridge with 70% toner remaining. Originally we signed up for HP's toner subscription, but after never getting to the point where we even need it after two years, that's just shy of $100 for which we get nothing back. From this point forth, we will NOT buy any more HP products. Period. The Verge has a quick read on this. Tom's Guide's Best Laser Printers for March 2024 features two Brother models. Check them out before you get trapped in HP's gravity well.

Apple is being sued in a Class Action for their device backup and iCloud storage practices. I can easily distill this into a comprehensible bit; Your phone likely comes with 64GBs or more of storage and Apple's free iCloud storage is 5GBs which is about 59GBs short of being useful. Despite this, Apple doesn't allow you to perform any other kind of backup except using your desktop Mac  or Windows using a cable, and lord knows what software now since iTunes has been replaced with Music. I haven't done a cable backup of an iPhone since... 2016? Read more over at 9to5 Mac

Some people think Alan Moore is just an angry old codger who wrote comics, but that happened because DC screwed him over. Big time. Watchmen and Batman: Killing Joke, both of which got... um, questionably competent adaptations, are utter masterpieces on paper. Moore is well known for his works with DC, but he never did any work Marvel... or did he? Turns out he did a 3-pager starring the X-MEN for an anthology issue raising money for African famine relief in 1985. Slashfilm has a write-up about Moore's troublesome history with DC and his work with Marvel for Heroes for Hope: Starring the X-Men, with Richard Corben on pencils

Leaks appear to show the long-anticipated refresh of the "budget" iPhone SE. If accurate, the new iPhone SE4 will lose the Home button and add Face ID sensors in the notch. My guess is that it will be using an updated version of the iPhone 12 frame as the display is rumored to come in a 6.1". The main shooter remains a single lens, as well. There appears to be a USB-C port on the bottom, but it's unlikely to get MagSafe charging in order to keep costs down. If the new form factor is any indication, it seems that Apple will have completely abandoned the idea of a revival of the 12 & 13 Mini form factor, like their aspirations for a self-driving car. The evidently clever boffins at Agora Energy have been working on a carbon dioxide REDOX (reduction <-> oxidation) flow battery technology for large-scale energy storage. Since I am completely incapable of explaining this to you, check out Dave's video on his YouTube channel, Just Have a Think, for some actual details that make sense to anyone, including me!

Post Script: I like people. Not all people, but I like the idea of people. That's a good thing, since Earth is made up of a lot of people. I think it's important to reinforce the idea that everything we know, everything we do, and everything that has ever existed or will exist in the HumanO-Sphere was/is/will be created by said people. Without people, Earth would be Animal Planet without the television part; beautiful and dynamic, but without an appreciative audience. It seems, then, that people are important to the future of our people-inhabited home world. This is my opinion only, but I think it would be far healthier to promote people for their humanity rather than demote them for some minor variant in human physiology or sociology. Just a thought.
