Tyler K. Nothing

All the nothing Tyler knows in one place!

    @manton I’m already quite fond of Inkwell and have already given it the top spot for news. The integration with M.b is really nice and I love the super clean look. This is the first time I’ve been excited about an opinionated UI/UX. There is, however, one usability issue which introduces some friction for me. The title is very truncated which means I’m shifting my eyes back to the article list to see what the article is about. I think a two-line information section showing the full title in an H1 or Title format with the source icon, feed name, and date on a second line in the existing font would be far more readable.

    It’s not a problem, per se, but it would also be nice to have a pop-up that shows all of the keyboard shortcuts for the web app versions, which would also be nice to have in M.b. I’ve been adding more and more keyboard shortcuts to my computer usage repetoir for the past few years, and more is always nice :)

    @jarrod I think the key difference is in the implementation. I’m quite sure the Studio Display has a pass-through bus and that is likely not processed by the A13. It’s not like you can use the display with only the A13. It needs a host machine.

    @simonbc Just took a look at the main page and the inclusion of the little notes makes everything nice and clear without any additional clutter. Can’t wait to see what else you have in the pipeline :)

    @simonbc Ok! In honor of the fix I jotted out a quick blog post. Thanks! jottit.org/vwo7kl

    @simonbc Sorry I didn’t see this earlier. Thanks! I’ll check it again. If you need some docs for users, just say the word. I’ve got loads of time. Some say too much ;)

    @simonbc Love it! Super clean. Could use dark mode and a touch of documentation. I tried to login from the homepage, but it throws an error saying the code is invalid or expired. I created a quick post and was able to claim it, but when I load the page again the edit function is gone. I do love a good markdown editor, though :)

    @leo 🤣Hee! I’ve done that.

    @todd What an odd take. The A19 Pro is from the iPhone 16 Pro. I imagine Passwords opens just fine on that since my 14 Plus (A15 Bionic) and 12 Mini (A14 Bionic) also have no issues opening Passwords. It’s a $600 laptop, from Apple, for average users, of which most humans are. And you’re not going to get a workstation that can edit feature films for $600. From any vendor using any chip technology. Just saying.

    @fischr Well, considering I cannot code (and for most of my 57 years, I’ve tried) all of this remains amazing to me :) Thanks for the hard work!

    @fischr Awesome! Looking much better already, especially on desktop with the iPad layout implementation.

    @fischr I kinda figured. Apple can be so weird sometimes.

    @fischr Good point. Makes sense.

    @fischr Awesome! Thanks :)

    @fischr Thanks for this! I’m a staunch NNW user, but am always interested in new feed readers and am kinda getting excited about reducing the “checkbox ticking” methodology of consuming news and items of interest. Installed on my iPhone 14+ and M1 Mini, both running 26. In the spirit of lending a hand, I have a few notes:

    • It would be nice to have a way of toggling Reader Mode on and off for all subs. Not sure how that would work, but I had to go into each setting individually to turn it on after importing my OPML from NNW.

    • The mechanism for moving from main list -> article -> reader mode and back is a bit clunky, mostly getting back out to the main list. I can swipe back from an article that isn’t in Reader Mode, but have to use the close button at the top left to exit Reader Mode, then swipe back to the main list. It would be helpful to just jump directly into reader mode and then swipe back to the main list. If that mechanic is not available from Safari Webview, then a swipe down to close it would be fine, as well.

    • The Stash is a nice idea, but it would be nice to have other options like Reading List or Notes, the latter of which would be awesome with the Share Sheet Always Use Reader Mode option, sort of like a personal Internet Archive :)

    • Some cross-device synching would be quite nice. Nothing complex. Subs being automatically synced between macOS, iOS, and iPadOS is really all I’d like. Reading position would be a secondary ask. Stash is a no, I think, but the previous item’s options for Notes or Reading List would already cover that.

    …and a few smaller items

    • Moving the toolbars to the bottom, or at least have the option.
    • There is a non-working “back” button in Reader Mode in the lower-left corner.
    • There is no way to move to the next article in article view or Reader Mode.

    I like very much how clean and simple and direct it is, though. I think there are some very solid bones to build on here and look forward to seeing where it goes :) Thanks!

    @manton Heh. It’s been decades since I’ve been through there on a layover flying back and forth between Knoxville and LA. I remember taking said train to the main concourse where there was an arcade, which should give you an idea of how long ago this was. Good times.

    @Voidchord Pop and Nobara are good choices. There’s also Bazzite. I’d suggest Fedora KDE based on your requirement, though. Just my opinion. It’s been my daily driver for years now. Solid distro.

    @manton Release the (RSS) kraken! ;)

    @manton I’ve not had that problem, likely because I’ve been using Linux and Windows as well for decades. I’m already accustomed to moving the pointer to the edge which, while a smaller target now, still falls into the detection region. I can get how that would be frustrating, though.

    @jarrod I’ve been using Apple Passwords since it first dropped and it’s been fantastic. Solid app. Highly recommended. Moved from BitWarden which I’d used for years and started getting crappy.
