There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge." - Isaac Asimov (1980)

Just got done watching the first episode of #StarWars #SkeletonCrew and it’s definitely a banger. Great writing, casting, VFX, sound and music, and pacing. It’s nice to see some suburbia in a Star Wars property, as well, and the Goonies vibe is strong with this one. This will be the first new Star Wars I’ve been excited for since Rogue One. #TV

Now Playing @ Nothing Manor: It Bites - Eat Me in St. Louis (1989). Having just finished some Frank, I thought I’d put on his old bands 3rd and final album. It Bites would usher in the Neo-Prog Rock era with strong power pop vibes. #music #nowplaying

I love #animation and I love #writing. I watch the former, but I built a career on the latter, then it died when the #pandemic swallowed the world. I have #LongCovid and it’s major features are brain fog, tinnitus, and exhaustion. I just can’t focus, so I think I have some idea about what Hayao Miyazaki has been going through. How do we live? Good question. Watch this. www.youtube.com/watch

Interesting take on the mini gaming laptop, for sure, but it’s clear #GPD already own the premium marketplace for such devices with their superior controller layout. Just be sure to have plenty of disposable cash if you’re entertaining getting one. #videogames #laptops #tech liliputing.com/onexplaye…

Well, well, well… It seems that #Lenovo themselves have now cheekily “confirmed” that they will be announcing their first #SteamOS-based gaming handheld at #CES2025. Recent rumors and leaks have shown a Lenovo Legion Go S, a smaller device lacking detachable controllers. #videogames #tech www.theverge.com/2024/12/1…

This clever snap-on game controller for #MobilePhones blew up on #YouTube earlier this year, and it looked like it was going to happen, then things got a little quiet. It seems, however, that the #MCON team has managed to break through the wall they were stuck behind and, with help from #OhSnap, are going to be showing their latest version at #CES2025. I have to say, it’s looking fantastic! #videogames #tech www.youtube.com/watch

Now Playing @ Nothing Manor: Sixpence None the Richer - Eponymous (1999). Despite getting the Grammy nomination for best Rock Gospel Album of 1997 (the version I’m playing is a re-issue) there’s very little overt religiosity unless you dig into the lyrics. It’s a solid progressive pop rock album with lots of clever hooks and arrangements. #music #nowplaying

Well, this is a clever case for iPhone models 12 through 15. Using a Lightning or USB-C connection concealed in the bottom of the case, you can add up to 1TB of storage to your iPhone with the card slot conveniently hidden near the camera bump. #apple #tech the-gadgeteer.com/2024/12/1…

Now Playing @ Nothing Manor: Toto - Mindfields (1999). Apparently this wasn’t received well by reviewers, but I like it. I’m especially fond of the title track. For some reason, the one on Apple Music’s first track is “Cruel”, contradicting the listing on the Wikipedia page. Anyway, toss it on and see what you think! #music #nowplaying

A little expensive, but it does make a statement and has the side benefit of making the #M4MacMini’s power button accessible (if you need that sort of thing). ZEERA’s MacForge aluminum case evokes the appearance of a tiny Mac Pro and just looks really cool. Sadly, there’s no option for wheels. #Apple #tech liliputing.com/zeera-mac…

So, just watched all of Amazon’s Secret Level series and here’s my review: It’s not… great. At least with Love Death & Robots we got original stories. These are glossy, extended ads for #VideoGames or, in the case of Ep. 15, an ad for Sony. Don’t bother. Just rewatch LD&R on Netflix.

Now Playing @ Nothing Manor: Mr. Mister - Pull (2010). This is a progressive pop masterpiece that, after being recorded in 1989-1990 was denied release by label RCA as not being commercial enough. It took frontman Richard Page two decades to regain the rights to the album, finish the mix, and release it under his own label. I had a bootleg copy of the leaked album, bought it when it came out, and now listen to this expanded edition. It remains one of my favorite albums. #music #nowplaying

Oh god, what a disaster. It was bad enough that #ElonMiusk’s #SpaceX was shooting thousands of satellites into orbit, but now others are doing it. There are countless factors to blame for this, not the least of which are #Capitalism and toxic power fantasies. arstechnica.com/space/202…

www.youtube.com/watch As reported on #Animation World Network, #Netflix has dropped a teaser for Asterix & Obelix: The Big Fight, the third CG #film from Alain Chabat and the first to be localized for English audiences. I read Goscinny & Uderzo books as a child in the 70’s and have loved them ever since. Each successive film has looked better and better, and it’s clear they’re leaning more into the comic roots of the tales of one village of Gauls against the Roman Empire. #movies

Now playing @ Nothing Manor: Death Cab for Cutie - Thank You for Today (2018)

Now playing at Nothing Manor: Sixpence None The Richer - Divine Discontent (2002)

Despite Sixpence being labeled a Christian rock band, their #music is more progressive pop and the lyrics are generally quite abstract. Even as former PK turned avowed atheist, I find myself quietly singing along to Melody of You, and Leigh Nash’s vocals are sublimely unique. #music #nothingmanor #nowplaying
